Client Assessment Tool (CAT)
DoIT has implemented CAT to protect students from viruses
and threats on the Stony Brook internet. CAT will scan
your computer to ensure that windows and antivirus are up to date:
- All of the released Microsoft Critical Patches
- Allowable Antivirus

You must pass CAT in order to register your computer on ResNet.
Conditions:
The CAT tool will only run on Windows machines. Therefore, all MAC
and Linux users should go directly to the registration page.
If you are a MAC or Linux user who is seeing the CAT page and asking
you to check your computer, please contact Client Support at 2-9800.
CAT Requirements
- You must be an Administrator on the machine.
- You must use Internet Explorer (IE) to register your machine.
- You must have Automatically Detect Settings checked in IE to access Windows Update
(Open IE --> click on Tools --> Internet Options --> click
on Connections tab --> LAN Settings)
- You must download CAT.exe to your desktop and run from there.
- You must continue scan and follow instructions.
