Client Assessment Tool

The Division of Information Technology has implemented the CAT tool to better protect students from viruses and threats on the internet. CAT will check your computer to ensure that your computer is up to date with:

  1. All of the released Microsoft Critical Patches, and
  2. An AntiVirus program with updated definition files.

You must pass CAT in order to register your computer on ResNet. Clicking on the link at the bottom of this page will initiate CAT. It may take some time for the tool to load, please be patient.

Conditions:

The CAT tool will only run on Windows machines (Win 95/98/ME/2K/XP). Therefore, all MAC and Linux users should go directly to the registration page. If you are a MAC or Linux user who is seeing the CAT page and asking you to check your computer, please contact Client Support at 2-9800.

CAT Requirements:
  1. You must be an Administrator on the machine.
  2. You must use Internet Explorer to register your machine.
  3. You must have Automatically Detect Settings checked in Internet Explorer (Open IE --> click on Tools --> Internet Options --> click on Connections tab --> LAN Settings)
  4. You must have Use Automatic Configuration Script checked in Internet Explorer and set to: http://resnet.stonybrook.edu/wpad.dat to access SOLAR (Open IE --> click on Tools --> Internet Options --> click on Connections tab --> LAN Settings)
